A good leader leads by example, not just by commands and we at Children Of India make sure that the children we work with have the right examples to look up to. We achieve this by organising various sessions for the children of CIF where we call leaders from a wide range of organisations working for a better society. One such session was organised by our our IMAGE project in July.
The session organised by the IMAGE staff welcomed Ms Shwetha as the guest speaker to encourage the movement leaders of IMAGE who have come a long way from being child brides to speaking against child marriages. Ms Shwetha is the founder of Women of Wisdom (WOW Trust), which works towards women empowerment in rural areas.
Being qualified in social work, she has worked with prestigious organisations like NDTV, Child Rights Trust, Save the Children and Republic TV until she founded the organisation- Women of Wisdom.
In the session, Ms Shwetha encouraged all the movement leaders of IMAGE by speaking to them about her life journey, struggles and accomplishments. She spoke on different topics like confidence, purpose, positive mindset and patience. She explained why these qualities are important to be a successful leader so as to see the impact one wishes to make. The 32 movement leaders were immensely motivated by the session and displayed keen interest by sharing their personal experiences from on-field advocacy and awareness campaigns against child marriages. They also consulted Ms Shweta for tips to not be discouraged by the setbacks they face on a daily basis from the local community and family members.
Overall, this exchange of leadership ideas and tips motivated the movement leaders of IMAGE to look at their obstacles as opportunities to become stronger in their fight against the social evil of Child Marriage in the rural areas of Karnataka.
