Our project aims to address child labour in Jharkhand’s Mica-dependent areas, which are extremely remote and vulnerable. Through child participation and the provision of services that empower children, we take a holistic approach to addressing the problem.
The project aims to get children out of the mines and back to school for a longer period of academic involvement. We also help parents strengthen their ability to fund their children’s education and health care. Through our child protection sensitization, where the children themselves address child exploitation problems in their community, we enable children to be “agents of change.”
From the 15th to the 18th of November, we held an International Labour Organization field expedition, which included a team of three ILO delegates.
The International Labour Organization is a United Nations agency whose mandate is to advance social and economic justice through setting international labour standards.
Delegates from the ILO visited our project areas to understand our work and the issues children face. We are delighted for the collaboration with the ILO as it will add value to our intervention in terms of expertise, capacity building, ultimately reaching out to more children.
ILO’s Chief Technical Adviser Mr. Giovanni Soledad, National Project Coordinator Mr. Gadiraju Lakshmi Narasimhan, and Mr. Fowzul Insaf Niza, Specialist Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work were among the three delegates.
They travelled to these field areas not just to visit but also to understand the project and mark the collaboration.
