Linking with mainstream social welfare/social protection schemes

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act is also known as MGNREGA. It was signed into law in 2005.  It is a labour legislation and social security provision in India that strives to ensure the ‘right to work.’

It aims to improve rural livelihood stability by offering at least 100 days of paid employment to at least one member of every household whose adult members volunteer to conduct unskilled manual labour in a financial year. Under the MGNREGA, women were guaranteed one-third of the jobs offered.

We at CIF worked hard to connect our affiliated families to the benefits of this programme. MGNREGA employment cards were distributed to 68 families, and 16 families were able to apply for the Prime Minister Housing Scheme in the Jharkhand and Mica belt. Our project aims to address child labour in 2 Mica dependent districts of Jharkhand which are highly remote and vulnerable.

We use a holistic approach to tackle the issue through child participation and the provision of services that render child empowerment. The project works towards taking children out of the mines and bringing them back to school for prolonged academic engagement. We also build the capacities of parents to support their child’s education and health care. We make way for children to be ‘agents of change’ through our child protection sensitisation where the children themselves address child exploitation cases in their community.

Aside from that, 324 persons received E-shram cards, which provide accidental insurance in the event of a disaster or setback.

In addition, 17 people were given old-age pensions, and 15 widows were given pensions to help them live securely. This came as a welcome relief to the recipients of the pensions, as they were now able to better support themselves financially.

In today’s pandemic environment, it’s critical that we all get vaccinated and immunise ourselves against the worldwide virus’s risks. We were also able to connect 14,650 individuals with COVID-19 vaccine as part of the comprehensive vaccination coverage campaign, which is fantastic news.

CIF is pleased to be able to assist those in need and offer them the assistance they require.
